Friday, April 25, 2003 Okay, I had promised a discussion of my vision for an emergent church concept. Well here it is: My Emergent VisionBasically this is going off some random collections of thoughts mashed together with some marketting ideas (hey, I was a business major.) The concept starts off with the church running through an established business of sorts. The business front (sounds like I'm in the mafia here) is a cyber-cafe/deli style place. Basically we take over an empty slot in a strip mall type situation and put in a cyber-cafe that also has gaming options with a place where patrons can get a lite lunch or snack kind of thing. We have three areas: the first is the coffee shop and sit down area with tables for those who wish to simply converse and/or eat; the second area is filled with both big furniture (overstuffed chairs and couches kind of thing) and table that have various terminals for simple surfing and emailing, these will be flat panel monitors with a keyboard and mouse for each all running to the network; the final place, probably in a back room, is a complete gaming center with several computer terminals set up for gaming both on-line and within the network, then you'll have several TVs with PS2s and X-Boxes loaded with only the top level games. The deli will serve light fare and the coffee shop will beat the snot out of any Starbucks. I also hope to have a stage in the place where you can have open mic night style gigs and soft bands. I don't know, it sounds do able. The draw will be for the younger, disenfranchised group of people, being able to game and doing some outreach there. Its a concept that' all. Of course weekly services on Sunday morning, you can get free coffee those days, with a weekly Bible study on Wednesday nights or something like that. Sounds expensive but I think tis doable. I'm probably going to throw it out to some people at NAMB or something to see if I can get funding and find some people that might want to help out. Who knows, its just a dream but at least I'm putting it out there. Now where's that rich uncle I know? Oh wait, I don't have a rich uncle... posted by Preachin Jesus | 3:02 PM | |
