Man I got to post more often on this sucker. Too good of an opportunity to waste away. Gotta try to keep up on this.

Read this today in an interview with Eugene Peterson:

So we let the culture shape what we’re doing because it seems so benign, and then we think, “We can Christianize it.” But we can’t. The church is a totally counter-cultural movement. We are a marginal people. There is no way we can be a success in this culture on their terms

That is some really good stuff. I finished reading Piper's Brothers, We are not Professionals and I completely agree with this estimation. Lots of churches around here in the metroplex are all about numbers and building their bankrolls. I just don't think that is to be the primary focus of our ministry efforts. If we truly affect people in ministry we will see good things come in their lives, but more than likely we won't see large movements affected by focusing on those who Christ focused on. Yet that is exactly who we need to spend more and more of our time, not money, with. I hope I don't become a Pharisee.

That last sentence is a big thing to say, I really hope I don't. I see a lot of their qualities in the way I go about things sometimes and I hope that through God's mercy I will get rid of it all. I'm working on it. Its long and trying but I'm working on it.

Definitely try to keep this thing going.
