![]() Thursday, April 08, 2004 On Condi's TestimonyI know, I know not too much theology these days and more opining about politics...but this is my blog and I reserve the right to create the rules. Anyhoo, today marked the momentous occasion for the Democratic party and the nattering-naybobs of negativism when they were able to strong-arm this current administration into acquiescing to their demands of questioning the national security advisor. There should much celebrations in the DNC national headquarters, yet I suspect if we all take a second to consider the facts presented and the reality of our situation we will see their kegger is a bit preemptive (no pun intended.) It is a hard thing being the most powerful, prosperous, and free nation on the face of this wonderful planet. Yet in spite of the historical ego-trip that has accompanied many of our former compatriots who have faced a similar situation, I believe the United States has (by and large) handled being the coolest kid in class extremely well. We have great humanitarian efforts both public and private which far outstrip any other country. We have been far more benevolent than other countries in our place have been historically and we are prudent in our exercising of our tremendous might. We have taken the moniker of the "Great Satan" and continued to help where needed, even in the face of political and personal persecution. When we had our innocent citizenry attacked on that morning of September 11th we did not lash out in unwarranted attacks against rogue, and perhaps, innocent nations but took the time to piece together evidence and provide an appropriate response. In spite of all this we still have agents of criticism and political opportunism within our own culture that have attempted undermine the leadership and credibility of this current administration in their handling of a situation that is so far removed from the scope of legitimate warfare that the average citizen cannot comprehend its complexities. This has reached a pinnacle today. It is impossible to know the exact intentions of 40 people out of 6 billion people. This is all Condoleezza Rice needs to say in her testimony today, and this is pretty much what she has said. Her exact quote is, "there was no silver bullet that could have prevented" the September 11th attacks. The difficulty facing this current administration in assessing the threat which would become our greatest national tragedy is two fold:
Terrorist groups like al-Qaeda have such a clandestine power structure and planning system that it is nearly impossible to penetrate their ranks. The major issue is the religious fervor that is associated with these groups and their ability to bring in only people who have been brainwashed with the pagan ideologies of radical Islam. The CIA, NSA, NRO, and FBI have hard times placing informants and collecting legitimate human intelligence because of the religious structure surrounding these groups. Only trusted, radical Muslims are allowed to be within that terror structure and that is a hard person to cultivate for informant status. This matched up with the easy access (in our free United States) to a veritable arsenal of terror enhancing agents available at the local Home Depot®, Best Buy®, Radio Shack®, etc. provides one man the ability to destroy hundreds, if not thousands, of lives. One need only point to Terry Nichols and Tim McVeigh, even Theodore Kaczynski to see the impact one man can have in easily developing terror in this society. Now this does not mean we should relegate ourselves to a closed, fearful society. Rather we must understand that in living in an open, free society such as the United States we also carry as a price tag the possibility of terror being inflicted upon us. Does this mean we should just allow terror to happen? Certainly not, we should (and do) have the most effective intelligence gathering agencies this world has ever seen who have tools we, the average citizen, cannot begin to comprehend. The war against terror has been fought on many fronts, and is detailed only in documents highly classified and tucked away from the public (which is the right thing to do in this case.) Our counter-terrorism efforts have more successes than failures; we will never truly know how many thousands of lives have been saved through classified and unknown activities of these agencies. These people hide in the mud and sewage, waiting for a time to spring out and inflict incredible horror. So too our counter-terror agencies must lie in wait in that same mud and sewage to pull them down and cut their vile throats before these horrible people can inflict their goals. It is impossible for us to know every terror threat, yet we are still vigilant. It is impossible for us to prepare for a specific threat, yet we are equipped to deal with them as best we can. The second point is neither intended to be a political jab, or to assess a "its solely their fault" moniker towards our former administration (we are together in this war.) That said, I believe the evidence is clear that during the Clinton years there were numerous opportunities to take out certain leaders in terror structures, yet our former president failed to act in that regard. Rather than acting against these mounting threats they Clinton administration began a policy of patient vigilance, waiting and watching for a more "prevalent" threat. The Clinton years stripped our intelligence agencies and military of funding they sorely needed and redirected it into the coffers and pockets of special interest groups and slacker citizens. It is rightly noted that killing Osama bin Laden, or any of his major commanders, would have done little or nothing to stop all terrorist activities. Yet one must wonder if it would have stopped some plans. We as citizens the United States must understand that these scurrilous wretches purporting themselves to be righteous agents of judgment are worth little more than the few cents it cost to buy the bullet we should put in their head. These terror agents will do anything it takes to accomplish their end. Whether it is ramming planes into buildings filled with innocent citizens or strapping bombs on children and sending them into crowded cafes of innocents, these people have no regard for life, liberty, or the pursuit of happiness. We must find these vile people and kill them, their compatriots, and all their followers and wipe their seed from this earth. For they seek to do that to us. We must scorch the earth with the fires from their destroyed towers of command, and scatter their message of death and destruction into the depths of Hell itself. We must pursue a path of national preservation and root out these pagan despots. posted by Preachin Jesus | 11:15 AM | |
