I've been contemplating some things about this life journey known as Christianity lately. Particularly when I examine the state of the New Testament Church in contemporary culture I am left wondering how will we capture the radically unchurched and church dissed for the Kingdom. I am finding that many within my generation are looking to the church and hoping that some ministries of aid and assistance will be more forthcoming. Also they are looking for relevance and a clear message of love. As I have surveyed the popular culture it is becoming more and more clear to me that people like Bono are going to have a major influence and impact on the next generation of Christians (what Robert Webber calls the Younger Evangelicals.)

While some of Bono's exploits might cause some more traditional Christians to cringe and shy away from his perspective, I am convinced that his style is what many young Christians will pay attention to in these next decades. It is not that they wish to emulate all the characteristics of Bono, but they will seek to bestow his compassion and zeal for all things just in their lives and the world. For the church to remain relevant in our contemporary culture we must continue to find voices which challenge us to live authentic lives worthy of the Gospel.
