On President Reagan

This Saturday as I watched the Rangers beat the Yankees I was saddened to hear the news that former President Ronald Reagan had passed away. It greatly saddened me, though I had known well this day was coming for many years. I am a consummate Reaganite. I have a poster of our former President on the wall in my room. I believe he was the greatest president of the twentieth century.

Throughout his presidency Ronald Reagan demonstrated character, compassion, wisdom, strength, humility, leadership, and a host of virtues sorely lacking in many politicians and people within our nation. President Reagan's life was marked by his determination to set right the course of our nation and to root out the evil empire of communism without the need for battles and deaths. When needed President Reagan acted decisively against those who would oppose our freedom and way of life. In all of this, through the hard times and the good times which accompany a presidency, President Reagan maintain an ebullient state of good cheer and was able to guide this nation through the hard times with his wit and laid back approach to matters.

History would be sorely lacking if it fails to recount and ascribe the honor due President Reagan of being of the major pieces in bringing the scourge of communism to its knees. Without his efforts and without his endurance in these matters the world as we know it might be remarkably different. He knew that the world was sitting at the precipice of a great danger when he took office, yet through his solid leadership President Reagan was able to draw us into a more secure place. We all knew that he held it a great honor to be our president; we love him for that. He did not spend his time in office idly or worrying about various personal scandals. President Reagan spent his time working for the American people. He was demure man in his spirituality and did not mix his message with abused overtones of corrupt spirituality. He was who he said he was and we knew we could trust him.

Stalwart personal perseverance was his most admirable trait. He had a plan for stabilizing a wavering nation when he entered office, and we became stronger because of him. As he leaves America he departs a nation that is indeed a glorious shining city on a hill for all other nations. Though we be embattled by the vicious, maligned by the timorous, and assaulted by the cowards our time with President Ronald Reagan was well spent. President Reagan leaves our shining city on a hill for the higher and glorious City of God where he shall certainly be welcomed and told, "Well done my good and faithful servant."
