A little blog from an upstart theologian that will do its best to exemplify Christ while sharing a thing or two along the way.

I've decided that I'm not going to watch any of the political conventions on TV this week or next. Instead I think I'm going to read a good book while they are going on. I'm just not impressed with either major party candidate. It seems that this will be another year of holding my nose and pulling the lever, filling in the dot, blowing out the candle, dropping the marble in the proper bowl, etc. I am pretty much against anything the Democrats are putting out these days because I just don't believe in big, or bigger government for starters. I don't believe that when its a life at whatever stage someone can choose to end that life without due process of the law. I don't believe its within our best interests to raise taxes on anyone.

Yet the Republicans are fielding just as problematic of a ticket. I have strong reservations against Dick Chenney being on the ticket simply because of political/public perception issues. I don't support our going to war in Iraq, though I am infinitely proud of our troops. I don't believe President Bush is as conservative as some in our evangelical Christian circles make him out to be. Certainly fiscally and in regards to the size of government he isn't at all where he should be if he is a true conservative. Also I think this whole Faith Based Initiatives is just trying to get the church more under the government's purview.

That said I knew before any of the Democrats began to run that I would probably be voting for a particular candidate, and I am going to do that. I just wish there were more viable candidates out there (and the Constitution Party doesn't count.) Also I am going to get infinitely tired of well intentioned, though theological myopic Christians questioning my commitment to Christ when I question the leadership of our sitting President and his crew.

The church really should stay as far away from politics as possible. Teach the saints rightly and they will act rightly. Christianity is not to be used a political arm.
