![]() Friday, September 24, 2004 Quick hitsHere are some random quick hits for this week. I'll have a substantive post on Monday, probably. I'll be off to Oklahoma, land of flatness and red dirt, to do the meet the parents thing with future Mrs.PJ's family. Really looking forward to this (and I mean that, I'm not being sarcastic) Why is that all the churches I'm looking at for ministry positions are looking for someone with 3 to 5 years of experience, but no one is willing to give a fresh, young seminary boy that 3 to 5 years? I had a senior pastor at an unnamed church basically criticize me for wanting go and pursue an MBA after my MDiv is done because that is where I feel called to be...of course I'll be serving in a local church during this time. He said that I had no reason to do such a thing because it wasn't practical. Seems to me our mainline churches are stuck in practical approaches that have been failing the congregants for years. I really didn't know what to say to this guy, so I just sort of shut down. It was pretty discouraging. I'm becoming increasingly aware of what an honor it is to be called to the ministry. Today I was speaking with a woman who talked about how much her senior pastor meant to her. He had been there since she could remember. He had baptized her and her children. He was intricately involved in her family's life, and they loved him so much. What a task we have before us brothers, we get to know these lovely people. We become their shepherd and spiritual leader. We have the opportunity to lead them to great planes spiritually, and show them how to walk closer to Christ. What an honor. We get to marry off their children, bless their grandchildren, and be one of the last memories they have before departing this mortal coil. How blessed am I to be called to such a high office? What have I done to merit this favor and blessing? Amazing! I am finding it quite ironic that little pieces of compressed carbon molecules that sparkle can cost so much. My stars people, the smaller the package the greater the price it seems. Logically it doesn't make much sense, but then again there are times when we must abandon all reasonable logic. posted by Preachin Jesus | 3:56 PM | |
