Monday, October 25, 2004 hehe...oopsWell its no secret that pop music is going down the tubes and presenting the public with bottom-dwelling, musically vacuous tripe. The overhyped, over-produced, cookie cutter approach to delivering music to the public has turned me completely off from pop music. I haven't bought a CD from the top 40 list in over 5 years because of it! (okay, I still by all the Dave Matthews stuff) This little episode of Ashlee Simpson on Saturday Night Live is more proof of the tom-foollery that is going on in the business these days. Now since PJ is a rather well toured drummer and percussionist who has had the opportunity to back up some pretty big names in the Christian music biz the whole lip synching thing isn't a surprise. I still remember the first time I was sitting in the studio and an engineer popped in an ADAT of a prominent artist who over-dubbed her studio vocals over a track when she went for the high notes. She did this because she didn't want to fail at hitting the high, and hard notes and falling flat in public performance. This opened the door to a multitude of musical high-jinx that led to me leaving any kind of interaction on a professional level with the biz. The number of artists who don't write their own songs, perform their own songs on their albums, or even sing their own songs on albums (or live) is startling for the average listener. (I won't name names here kiddies) Well Ms. Simpson is just another case of some person pressing the wrong button on his player, and her fakery is exposed. The public will be shocked, and hopefully Ms. Simpson will be forced from the stage. The over-hyped, record industry is getting what they deserve if her fans take all her fake CDs and mail them back to the company with letters of disdain attached. Hopefully she will return to acting poorly on evening soap opera style TV. posted by Preachin Jesus | 10:16 AM | |
