![]() Tuesday, October 05, 2004 On Preaching Without NotesOkay, I'm in my preaching lab class...or expository preaching 2 if you want to be technical...and the dealy-oh is that when we preach we must do so without notes. I'll be honest, I originally had problems with this. Mind you it isn't because I can't do that, I'm just not sold on the practicality of it all. How many preachers are going to out and not use notes when they deliver? I asked myself. Well I got up and gave my sermon the other night and found it to be quite liberating not having notes. It was pretty intimidating at first, for starters I preaching to an audience that is critiquing me on every little point, but I got used to it. The whole preaching without notes thing allows for better eye-contact and freedom to move. Now while I don't suggest this for everyone, it might be a good thing to try if you've never done it before. One of the troubles with it is the tendency to ramble more if you get off your mental outline, yet this can be solved with a beautiful wife sitting on the front rowing point to her watch when you run over. An interesting technique to begin to integrate. posted by Preachin Jesus | 8:23 AM | |
